Don Ryan’s talents are realized in two primary mediums, Oil and Pastel painting. Don studied at the American Academy of Art in the mid 80’s, majoring in Fine Art and Illustration. Expressing the beauty of God’s creation as light rakes over form, this imagery has always resonated with Don’s talents in oil. Recently however, through exploring pastels, he has reemerged with a new distinct voice in portrait painting. Don has been juried into national as well as international shows, and has received awards nationally and locally in the Chicago area.
His illustrations and paintings are held by a municipality, commercial advertising, charities and private collections. Don’s self-portrait has been published in the journal, The Art of the Portrait. His current interest is creating portraits of the men and women that have served in the armed forces.
Don is a member of the Portrait Society of America, Signature member Chicago Pastel Painters, Palette and Chisel Academy in Chicago, Plein Air Painters Chicago and the Du Page Art League. Don is also a veteran of the armed forces.
